Intelligence agencies have issued terror alert, saying that the militants have carved a plan to target under construction, sensitive and high profile government buildings along with residences of VVIPs.
Interior Ministry after receiving the information has put entire security system on red alert and pickets around government buildings, defence installations, VVIP residences and exit and entry points was enhanced, sources in Interior Ministry told Business Recorder on Thursday. They said that the security around Islamabad was also put on red alert, as there is information of presence of terrorists and suicide bombers in the capital.
Intelligence agencies have informed the Interior Ministry that terrorists have a plan to target the under construction government buildings by using the trucks and other vehicles carrying construction material, sources said, adding that terror alert note also carried the information regarding the entry of terrorists and suicide bombers in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
They said that according to terror alert issued by intelligence agencies the offices of law enforcement agencies and security agencies would also be targeted by the terrorists. They said that the intelligence agencies have recommended increase in security around the under construction buildings, sensitive government and defence installations and residences of high government functionaries.
Police and other law enforcement agencies in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were directed to enhance the vigilance on suspected persons and make sure checking the vehicles entering cities particularly the vehicles carrying building construction material, sources said.
When this scribe contacted the high officials of the Islamabad Police, they were not available for comments while some officials on the condition of anonymity revealed that they have received the instructions from Interior Ministry regarding the terror alert and making enhanced efforts to check the suspected vehicles and persons.
They said that Islamabad police is already on high alert and checking vehicles on entry and exit points. People were asked to keep complete vigilance on the movement of suspected persons informing the nearest police station to check any suspicious movement in their areas.
It was also learnt that the National Crisis Management Cell of Interior Ministry has also issued a terror alert regarding the terrorist strikes on under construction buildings. The Cell in its directive to law enforcement agencies has stated that the terrorists have planned to target the under construction government buildings by using carriage vehicles like trucks, trolleys, dumpers and tractors.
