Three-day Sports Gala concludes: Punjab University making achievements in sports arena
Punjab University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the Punjab University is not only making rapid strides in academic and research excellence but its students have also made enviable achievements in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities during the last two years.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a 3-day Sports Gala organised by the Institute of Education and Research in New Campus here on Friday. Dean Education Professor Dr Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal, Director IER Professor Dr Mumtaz Akhtar and a large number of students were also present. The vice-chancellor said in addition to pursuing academic studies, the students should take active part in sports events for proper grooming of their personalities to face upcoming challenges of modern world during their practical lives.
Due to encouragement and patronage of the present administration, the university students have won 32 team trophies and 146 individual prizes in the year 2009 as compared to 11 team trophies and 47 individual prizes secured during 2008, he added. Later Dr Mujahid Kamran gave away trophies to the students who had shown extra-ordinary performance in different games and sports.
