Establishment operation and maintenance, of a high speed, reliable safe road network linked up with the ports and borders of the country, is the foremost duty of NHA. In order to fulfil this national obligation, NHA is taking maximum advantage from the latest development in road building sector and is moving ahead successfully to achieve the targets.
Keeping in view the increasing economic activity, transportation of passengers and goods, Pakistan's ideal geographical location and subsequent transit trade between Pakistan, China & Central Asia States, NHA is implementing a gigantic program of National Trade Corridor under which mega projects of highways motorways, expressways, and strategic roads are underway.
Dualization of Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar National Highway (N-5), Indus highway, up gradation of Karakoram Highway, Makran Central Highway, Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1), Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2), Pindi Bhattian Faisalabad Motorway (M-3), Gawadar-Ratodero Motorway (M-8), Lowari Tunel, Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Highway, Islamabad-Murree-Muzaffarabad dual carriageway, National Highway Improvement Program (NHIP), and improvement and rehabilitation of roads included in Asian Highway Network stand among the most important assignments of NHA.
In the recent years, a number of provincial roads have been federalised and placed under the jurisdiction of NHA which is the ample proof of NHA's excellent performance. With the view to increase its revenue, NHA is modernising the Toll Collection System.
Besides practical advancement is being made to eliminate overloading and encroachment along the NHA network to protect this national asset from bad affects such practices. NHA is determined to continue its effort to serve as a Service Provider and to put country on the track of rapid economic development.
