Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani laid the foundation of a Rs 2.77 billion workers complex comprising 1000 residential flats for labourers and workers at the Industrial Estate Area on Sunday.
Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that new labour policy would soon be introduced in the country to facilitate the industrial workers while Industrial Relations Act 2010 would be introduced in April, which would safeguard the rights of the employers and employees.
Prime minister asked all the provincial governments to ensure the minimum wages of Rs 6000 to industrial workers. He announced for medical college in Multan, in which labourers' children would get free medical education while 50 percent seats would be allocated for the general public.
He announced 22 ambulances for Khawaja Fareed Hospital of Social Security of Multan. He said that his government was aware of the miseries of the common man due to dearness, joblessness, poverty starvation and load shedding, but it was a global phenomenon.
Prime minister said: "We are framing far-reaching policies to provide relief to workers .The Prime Minster said that workers would have the status of shareholders of state owned industrial organisations even after their privatisation.
He said Federal Minister for Labour Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah had also announced setting up a Punjab Social Security Medical College and provision of 22 ambulances for labourers and workers. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the government was committed to providing maximum relief to the masses at grassroots level.
Govt believes in supremacy of law:
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the present government believed in the supremacy of law and Constitution. He was addressing a lawyers' delegation, which met him under the leadership of President Multan High Court Bar Association Qamar-uz-Zaman Butt and president District Bar Association Multan, Sher Zaman Qureshi here at Circuit House.
The Prime Minister said, "We want that judiciary, parliament and administration work within their parameters, which will strengthen the institutions. He said, "We have to strengthen institutions. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had also envisaged strengthening of institutions in the Charter of Democracy." On this occasion, he gave a cheque of Rs 5 million to the Multan High Court Bar Association, and another cheque of Rs 5 million to the District Bar Association Multan.
The Prime Minister also gave a cheque of Rs 10 million for the lawyer's welfare fund, which was received by Mirza Aziz Akbar, member Pakistan Bar Council. He was talking to a delegation led by Chief Executive Poverty Alleviation Fund, Kamran Akmal, here at Circuit House on Sunday.
The Prime Minister said the masses welfare tops the government agenda. He added the Ministry for Social Welfare, Labour and Works Department had launched programmes for the well-being of the masses. "Beside other programmes, Waseela-e-Haq and Benazir Income Support Programme are benefiting the masses and are proof of government efforts to serve the masses," he added.
The Prime Minister said that he would instruct Sameena Khalid Ghurki, the minister for social welfare, to involve all stakeholders while launching any social welfare programmes. The Prime Minister praised the delegation working for a noble cause and assured them of all possible co-operation for the rehabilitation of special persons. Earlier, chief executive Poverty Alleviation Fund, Kamran Akmal, and the chief executive Society for Disabled Persons, briefed the prime minister about the working of the organisations.
On this occasion, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal, Minister for Health Mukhdoom Shuhabuddin, Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gill, local MPAs and other officers were present.
