Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has sought help of French government to overcome persistent energy shortage in the country, which is not only hurting the economy but also hitting hard to common man. He was talking to Ambassador of France to Pakistan Daniel Jouannaeau who called on him at his Raiwind residence on Monday.
During the meeting, various matters of mutual interest came under discussion. Views were also exchanged on matters pertaining to war against terror, security situation and economic situation in Pakistan, sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder.
Talking to French diplomat, Nawaz said, "France is trustworthy friend and Pakistan values its relations and partnership with such an important country of the West." Nawaz said, "Pakistan is paying heavy price for the war against terror with its limited resources, while denying the social sector its due share of the national budget."
The PML-N leader said, "our people are suffering badly from poverty, price escalation and unemployment. The shortage of energy had added fuel to the fire. Some relief to the economy of the country and people is badly needed." Nawaz said, "present situation is outcome of dictator's rule and policies, while the present democratic dispensation has failed in resolving the problems confronted to the people of Pakistan."
He told the French diplomat, "we are supporting the government only for stability in the country and for the good governance with a hope that it would fulfil the just needs of the people". While conveying the message of goodwill from his government, the French Ambassador informed the PML-N Quaid about the visit of French President, Nicolas Sarkozy to Pakistan during July this year and his proposed address to the joint sitting of the Parliament.
Nawaz welcomed the visit of French President and said, "it would be great privilege for the Pakistan to host the honourable guest from a friendly country." The ambassador also informed the PML-N Quaid that the French government will provide assistance to Pakistan for the drinking water projects and social sector development.
