A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday issued notice to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for March 25 (today) in a petition filed by federal interior Rehman Malik seeking permanent exemption from personal appearance before the court in two NAB cases. Bench headed by Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif observed that permanent exemption could not be granted without seeking viewpoint of NAB on the issue.
The bench directed minister to appear before it today (Thursday) when the court would also take up the appeals of Rehman Malik against conviction granted in two NAB references. The court had already granted him bail after suspending his conviction under section 31-A of National Accountability Ordinance in two references made by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
In first reference, Rehman Malik and others were accused of receiving two cars worth Rs 17,98,000 from one Saleem Godial of Toyota Central Motors, Karachi as illegal gratification and in second case it was alleged that Malik along with Muhammad Sajjad Haider, AD/FIA Islamabad and others raided his house in August 1994 and looted jewellery weighing 20 tolas and Rs 7,00,000.
