'Government wants to make a flawless LG system'

Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that Local Government System 1979 and Local Government System 2001 had some flaws, therefore the PPP government in consultation with its coalition partners wants to make a flawless local government system on permanent basis.
Talks are under way among PPP and its coalition partners, he said while talking to journalists at Circuit House Hyderabad where he came to attend IMSA function, here on Wednesday. Responding to a question about giving administrative control of Police and Revenue departments to district government, Khuhro said Pervez Musharaf wanted to avoid holding general elections therefore he gave so much power to the local governments.
If revenue and police departments were placed under the control of local governments then the role of Provincial government would be limited. However, to reach a final decision, talks were under way among PPP and its coalition partners.
He said that thousands of poor women were being given financial support of Rs one thousand under Benazir Income Support Programme. Youth were being provided training in different fields to enable them to earn livelihood for their families. They were also given stipend of Rs 4 thousand to Rs 6 thousand per month and added that such people welfare works of the government must be appreciated.
Responding a question regarding participation of nationalists parties of Sindh in local government elections, Khuhro said that it was a good sign that nationalists parties were going to contest local government elections and added that it was strange that such people remained silent in the past.
Responding to a question about menace of electricity load shedding, he said, "we are being blamed for all the mess, which was left by the previous government. Later, Khuhro distributed shields and trophies among the students who secured positions in essay writing, debate, and Quiz competitions organised by IMSA. A large number of students from 22 educational institutions of Pakistan attended the function.
