Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam has stressed the need for better training of police personnel, saying that policemen from reserve force and other sections will have to undergo refresher courses and anti-riot training. "Refreshing courses will help improve the skills of policemen to handle any bad law and order situation," Imam said during a special briefing to the officers and policemen of the Capital police force after his return from the United States.
DIG (Operations) Binyameen, DIG Headquarter Kamal Uddin Tipu, DIG Security Mujeeb ur Rehman, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP Headquarters Muhammad Zubair Hashmi, AIG Special Branch Heleena Iqbal Saeed, SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Masood, all SPs and SDPOs were also present during this briefing.
IGP took notice of the law and order situation emerged after the announcement of transporters to increase the fares. He said that refresher courses would be arranged for the personnel of the reserve force and other sections. He said there is need to adopt comprehensive strategy to control bad law and order situation, as some elements try to exploit the situation.
Referring to the situation emerged after the assassination of Azam Tariq in the capital, IGP said that citizens had to bear much loss at that time, therefore it is essential to work out comprehensive strategy to control such situations, he maintained.
He appreciated the performance of the police officers who successfully handled the situation at Bhara Kahu. Those performing well would be awarded while others involved in dereliction of duties would be punished, he maintained. The IGP directed the police officials to enhance co-ordination with the citizens and ensure community policing in the city so that services of the notables could be obtained during troublesome situations.
