CP challenging holding of two offices: LHC asked to summon Zardari for proceedings
An application has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC), praying to summon President Asif Ali Zardari in two constitutional petitions, challenging his holding of the political office. The application was filed by Engineer Ghulam Jillani, stating that though President Zardari was enjoying constitutional immunity against the legal proceedings as President of Pakistan but he could be summoned by court in his capacity as the co-chairman of PPP.
The petitions were being heard by a five-member full bench, which already fixed hearing date for March 29. Earlier, K Dogar of Pakistan Lawyers Forum and Asif Mehmood advocate filed the petitions pleading that the said act of President Zardari was in clear violation of article 41 (1) of the constitution. They said the President being head of the state could not hold an office of a political party.
