The accountability court adjourned the hearing of corruption case against the Sharif family, when Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) lawyers and supporters created ruckus as Maryam Nawaz and Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) arrived in court.

A numbers of PML-N lawyers surrounded Judge Muhammad Bashir’s bench as soon as he entered the courtroom, claiming they were manhandled and prevented by the security from entering the courtroom. They threatened to hold up the proceedings until action was taken against the security.

Due to the commotion, Judge Bashir adjourned the hearing till October 19. After the hearing had been delayed, the PML-N lawyers and supporters dispersed.

Captain Safdar, Maryam Nawaz release on bail

Maryam and husband Captain Safdar arrived at the judicial complex separately on Friday morning. Addressing the media on her way out, Maryam asked the interior ministry to come up with a strategy to restrain such events from occurring in the future, local media reported.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not attend the proceedings, as he is in London with his sons and ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz. On his behalf, the premier’s legal team nominated Zafir Khan as the ‘pleader’ who will stand for Nawaz during his indictment. On the last hearing on October 9, the accountability court had approved the bail of Maryam and Capt Safdar and had observed that they, along with Nawaz, would be indicted on October 13.
