Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani held a meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at the latter's Raiwind residence on Thursday and expressed the resolve to make the parliament sovereign. Sources told Business Recorder that various matters of national importance came under discussion during the meeting, which was held after a luncheon hosted by Nawaz Sharif in the honour of visiting Turkish President.
The premier, according to sources, also resolved to continue the policy of national reconciliation. According to him, the agreement on the draft of the 18th Amendment will strengthen democracy. Both leaders congratulated the nation, the chairman and members of the special parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms and the leadership of all political parties.
They hailed the agreement among all political parties over the 18th amendment draft and declared it a good omen for the future of democracy and democratic institutions in the country. The premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that unanimity of views over the agreed draft of public representatives and jubilations expressed by the common man demonstrated that the nation wanted a change for a better future. The change is only possible, when all institutions are strong and they function within their constitutional domains, Gilani added.
Nawaz said all political parties for the first time were united to amend the constitution for the betterment of the country. The constitutional amendments will help promote democratic culture and values, he added. Later, the Prime Minister left for the federal capital. He was seen off at the helipad by the PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali.
