A British soldier was killed by an explosion while on foot patrol Sunday in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said. The serviceman, from 3rd Battalion The Rifles, was killed in the Kajaki area of Helmand Province.
His death takes the British military death toll in Afghanistan to 280 since operations in the country began in October 2001. Around 35 service personnel have been killed this year.
Britain has around 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, largely battling Taliban militants in Helmand.
