Taiwan stocks rose 0.16 percent on Friday, boosted by improved investor sentiment after upbeat data from the United States and China raised hopes for strong demand for Taiwan's exports. Gains were capped however by light trading due to market holidays in the region and ahead of a US holiday on Friday, with caution also evident ahead of US jobs data due Friday.
The main TAIEX closed 12.8 points higher at 8,025.93, adding to Thursday's 1.17 percent gain to a 10-week closing high.
The index fell 3 percent in the first quarter, helped by a surge in foreign fund buying. The electronics sub-index gained 0.19 percent, with top chip maker TSMC up 0.5 percent.
Taiwan's top tech companies will announce first quarter earnings this month and analysts believe most will fare well as the global economy takes shape. However smartphone maker HTC slipped 0.3 percent after the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said it had begun investigating whether HTC had infringed Apple's mobile technology patents.
