Thirty one years ago on this day Pakistan's first directly elected Prime Minister Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed through a process that has been universally condemned as judicial murder, His detractors, fearing Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, wanted to eliminate him He may have been eliminated physically but Bhutto continues to live in the hearts and minds of the people.
Such is the power and charisma of Shsaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto that he continues to haunt dictators even form his grave. For the past over four decades the politics of the country has revolved around the name of Bhutto. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had once said that he would prefer die tat the hands of dictators rather than at the hands of history. How true he was. Today, Shaheed Bhutto lives, while his detracts and tormentors have been consigned to the dustbin of history.
He gave the country a unanimous Constitution. On the eve of his 31st death anniversary the 18th Constitutional Amendment has been laid before the Parliament to restore the Constitution of 1973 that he helped give the nation. Democracy has triumphed and taken its revenge from dictators who had subverted the Constitution in an unsuccessful bid to legitimize themselves. Following the footsteps of her father Shaheed Mohtarma Bhutto also load down her life for democracy.
Perhaps nowhere in the world has two successive generations of political leadership laid down their lives in the world has two successive generations of political leadership laid down their live in the cause of the people. The honor belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Bhutto family. It was the inspiring leadership and charismatic of Quadi-e-Awam which hanged the contours of the politics of Pakistan. He modernized Pakistan and left deep imprints in the sands of history.
Let us make it clear today that no matter what our adversaries may do Bhutto still continues with vigour and intensity. Bhuttoism will continue to empower the people, extricate them from deprivation and foil conspiracies against their empowerment. On this occasion I call upon the party workers to rededicate themselves to the ideals and principles of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The Party has always served the masses with distinction and will continue to do so in the future as well.
Jeeay Bhutto!
