Education City is located in Deh Chuhar, Gadap Town about 50 kilometers north-east of Karachi. As the Education City develops, Karachi will also serve as an intellectual hub of knowledge and research activities as well as the 'economic engine' of the Province.
With a concentration of prominent higher educational institutions it will serve as a pinnacle of intellectual curiosity where leaders of tomorrow will emerge and breakthroughs in technology unfold. The concept for the 'Education City' is based on maximising both the intellectual and physical investment that a number of educational and health institutions have planned to make in Karachi.
The land designated as 'Education City' cover approximately 9000 acres of land straddling the Link Road that connects the Super Highway and National Highway, and was designated for the exclusive use of education and health sector by the Government of Sindh. It will become a center for educational activities and contribute richly towards raising higher education in the country and particularly in the Province of Sindh.
Among the institutions who are the existing Stakeholders' in the Education City are the Aga Khan University (AKU), Newport's Institute of Communications and Economics (NICE), Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute for Science and Technology (SZABIST), Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and Ziauddin University (ZU) while more than two dozen are awaiting allotments.
The Sindh Madressa Board's Quaid-e-Azam Public School (SMB-QPS) is already running their Higher Secondary School since last fourteen years. An environmental code will be strictly followed by all the institutions located in the Education City thus providing pleasant ambience and a green and healthier environment.
The Sindh Government has taken keen interest in expediting the development of Education City and has been constantly reviewing the problems and hurdles in the development of the Education City project. Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) is spearheading the project as a Special Development Zone within the province and has urged all Stakeholders and concerned departments to speed up their efforts to make the project a reality.
A consortium of planners comprising of Arcop, Chan Krieger Sieniewicz (USA) and Halcrow (Pakistan) is developing the Master Plan. The Stakeholders' of the Education City have been working closely with the Government of Sindh for the development of the Education City Master Plan and will continue to work together as the projects moves forward.
