Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, taking serious notice, has directed the city police to nab the miscreants involved in the torture of a Punjab University teacher within 24 hours failing which strict action will be taken.
Official sources told APP here Sunday that CM while chairing a meeting held to review the situation in PU after the torture of Chairman Discipline Committee Professor Iftikhar Hussain Baloch by JI activists on Saturday expressed displeasure and directed the SSP (Operation) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmad Gujjar to round up the goons nominated in the FIR.
The CM warned that no leniency should be demonstrated in future to maintain peaceful, congenial and academic environment at campuses in the city. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said " present government always attaches great importance to the welfare of teaching community especially the Punjab University, an oldest seat of learning in sub-continent and hold them in high esteem without any discrimination".
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif categorically warned that no one will be allowed to sabotage and jeopardise the peaceful atmosphere in the campuses besides playing with the future of innocent students at any cost. Punjab Academic Staff Association is taking out protest rallies daily within the campus demanding immediate arrest and strict action against miscreants.
Punjab University's students and cross section of the society have strongly condemned the torture of teachers by a handful disgruntled and unscrupulous elements.
