University Diagnostic lab (UDL) of University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) has trained the third batch of the laboratory heads (officers) of Punjab Livestock and Diary Development (PL&DD) in 'basic disease diagnostic in livestock and poultry. UVAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz who distributed the certificates among the participants chaired the concluding session of the training.
He also appreciated the participants for successful completion of this practical training. Director UDL, Professor Dr Masood Rabbani said that UDL has recently trained 29 officers of diagnostics labs of different districts of Punjab in three groups.
Director ADR & SS, Dr Shahid Hussain Bukhari lauded the efforts of UDL for providing training facilities to lab heads as well establishing linkages with L&DD, Punjab. As per vision of the UVAS for livestock and poultry sectors sustainability, the trainees have been trained in all those modern disease diagnostic techniques in livestock and poultry sector, which are need of hour for the rapid, reliable, cost effective and quality tests to detect various diseases causing loss of millions of rupees to the livestock and poultry stakeholders.
In this one-week duration of the extensive hands-on training sessions, the trainees have been trained in workable models of running diagnostic labs, good lab practices (GLPs), lab management system (ISO 17025), lab biosafety and biorisk management guidelines CWA 15793, modern sampling and processing, Handling of routine lab equipment, sterilisation of labwares and media preparation, culture sensitivity testing, bacterial smear preparation and staining, biochemical test for bacterial identification, CBC, examination of blood and fecal parasites, AGPT, use of serum chemistry analyser, RBPT, HA, HI and mastitis testing.
