Spain to contribute 3.6 billion euros to Greece plan

Spain will contribute 3.6 billion euros ($4.82 billion) to a rescue plan for Greece if the country decides to use the aid mechanism, Spain's secretary of state for EU affairs said on Monday. Speaking at an event in Madrid, Diego Lopez Garrido said an aid plan for Greece was clearly positive for markets and that a deal with the International Monetary Fund would come shortly.
"There will now be negotiations with the IMF to complete an aid plan as soon as possible," he said. The IMF is due to hold talks with Greek, EU and European Central Bank officials in Brussels on Monday. A 30-billion euro emergency aid mechanism for debt-plagued Greece was agreed by euro zone finance ministers on Sunday.
