The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Wednesday signed an MoU with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) aimed at improving productivity by providing tailor-made IT solutions to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country. The LCCI President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry inked MoU on behalf of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry while Dr Javaid Ghani, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, represented the PITB.
The LCCI Senior Vice president Ijaz A Mumtaz, E C Member Ibrahim Qureshi and Chief Strategy Officer of PITB Athar Mian were also present on the occasion. As per MoU, the LCCI and PITB will jointly organise the IT workshops at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry that would help develop both the human resource and businesses in accordance with global IT advancement.
The LCCI and PITB will jointly organise workshops, seminars and conferences to promote IT knowledge and awareness of local products and services so as to increase business productivity and commerce. The LCCI and PITB also agree to promote awareness among the business community about IT parks, programmes offered to enhance skill sets and trade facilitation, and explore potential for joint ventures related to technology with foreign computer firms.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry was making collaborations to develop information technology as a source of economic activity in the country, as a number of countries around the globe had made their presence felt through the use of Information Technology.
He said that there was no second opinion about it that awareness and use of Information Technology were the pre-requisites to increase efficiency and competitiveness. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman PITB Dr Javaid Ghani said that the vision of Punjab Information Technology Board was to make Punjab the hub of information technology (IT) through human resource development, economic activity generation, IT education, outsourcing, and infrastructure development.
He said that PITB was working with the mission to "develop IT as a major sphere of economic activity, and promote its use in the public and private sectors for increasing efficiency and competitiveness". PITB has achieved considerable success in a short time towards realising the objectives for which it was formed.
