The Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan inaugurated three new educational institutions for vocational training and fine arts in one go by unveiling the plaques to mark the investiture of a milestone in the history of Defence Housing Authority DHA's educational network.
An impressive inauguration ceremony in this connection was held at Defence Authority College for Women, Phase-VII Extension DHA on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad said that the status of a country in the present times was determined largely on the strength of its education and technical prowess.
He stated that the level of national development and prosperity, however, was linked with the system and quality of education, particularly in the fields of science, arts and technology. The Governor emphasised the need for building a sound system of education for the country, which could serve the needs of both present and the future.
He said that the system of education should be realistic, affordable and result oriented. Dr Ishrat reiterated that education designed and tailored in accordance with the market demands and contemporary trends would ensure provision of jobs and thus ensure economic prosperity of the nation.
He said that education had a very high priority for the government, as it was the backbone of all-national development and progress. The Governor expressed a keen appreciation of DHA plans for further growth and development, in all sectors of public service. He also conveyed the complete support of his government for promoting all such endeavours, especially in the field of education.
Administrator DHA, Brigadier Khalid Tirmizi said that DHA was making concerted efforts to provide best civic, recreational and educational facilities to the residents. Brigadier Tirmizi termed the latest DHA's initiative in the field of education, as an embodiment of the same progressive spirit in manifestation.
He said that the Housing Authority had accordingly launched and completed a number of landmark mega projects of great impact and significance including DHA City, infrastructural development in DHA Ph-VIII, Creek Vistas, DHA Services, Gizri Flyover, Cogen Plant and Computerisation of DHA.
Brigadier Tirmizi said that education has always been one of the top priorities for DHA and termed the recent initiative of establishing new educational institutions, as a remarkable example in this connection. Earlier, Director Education DHA, Brigadier Iftikhar Arshad (Retd) said that DHA was moving ahead with a pragmatic approach to foster educational values in the society to attain the goal of academic excellence.
A large number of dignitaries, government officials, educationists and city elites attended the ceremony. The three new specialised institutions established by DHA include two Defence Institutes of Technical Education (DITE) separately for men and women to impart the much needed technical education in vocational trades to youth at an easily affordable rate and a Centre of Arts and Design offering a four years degree programme to equip young women with artistic talent.
