The Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal has underlined the need of research in important areas and said that research-oriented societies, which solve their economic and social problems and help in upgrading of their community, are generally stable.
He was presiding over the final Ph.D seminar of research scholar, Assistant Professor of Government Degree College Ranipur Rasool Bux Mangi, under the faculty of education, Hyderabad, on Wednesday. The Vice Chancellor said research for civilisation plays an important role and added that research must aim to benefit present as well as coming generations.
While commenting on the researcher's work, the VC pointed-out that major portion of thesis of the research mainly depends on data, adding that a layman will not be able to understand the problem in light of heavy data. Dr Mughal suggested scholars that at the time of compilation of thesis, they should highlight the problem in the introduction chapter and also enrich the concluding chapter so that a reader by viewing both, may understand and benefit from the work immediately.
He observed that school education is an important area but it is surprising that the bibliography shows that books referred by the scholar are more than 20 years old. We are living in a digitalized world and information highway and all information, on required topics, can be easily available on the Internet, he said.
The VC, while highlighting work of research patrons in developed countries, said that if we turn pages of history, we see that our elders worked a lot for their future generations. He stressed it is necessary that scholars evaluate their research work from a sociological point of view. He said that a scholar, who is engaged in research on any problem, has the authority on that subject but adoption of research procedures, to meet international standards, is also essential.
