The water inflows in the four live rivers have crossed 0.110 million cusecs mark with the rising temperature in the upper areas of country. According to the 15th April river flows and reservoirs level report of Water and Power Development Authority, 34400 cusecs water is flowing in Tarbela dam on river Indus, 27,700 cusecs water in river Kabul at Nowshera, 35,500 cusecs in river Jhelum at Mangla dam and 15,500 cusecs in river Chenab at Marala headworks.
The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is releasing 0.1 million cusecs water into the irrigation system for generation of over 2600 MW hydel electricity and sowing of Kharif crops including cotton, rice, sugarcane and maize. Of the combined flow of river Indus and Kabul downstream Nowshera, 63,600 cusecs water is pouring into Jinnah Barrage, 49,500 cusecs into Chashma barrage, 30,200 cusecs into Taunsa barrage, 26,500 cusecs into Guddu barrage, 23,300 cusecs into Sukkur barrage and 4353 cusecs into Kotri barrage. In order to produce optimum hydel electricity, Irsa has not yet started filling the largest reservoir of the country Tarbela dam on river Indus, however, Mangla dam has risen 36 ft above dead level of 1040 with a storage of 0.254 MAF water.
