In past designers with a 2-year or 4-year degree seek employment who are knowledgeable about textiles, fabrics, ornamentation, and fashion trends. But nowadays freelance designers work for themselves, and sell their designs to fashion houses, directly to shops, or to clothing manufacturers. Many youngsters and now house wives are attracted to the creativity and glamour associated with the fashion designing occupation.
Nosheen Ejaz is one of such women who tried her luck in designer's world. A Karachi based self taught entrepreneur she started her work two years back and is quite successful in Karachi. Her recent exhibition of a range of designer clothes in Islamabad at Melauge shop, was well received by the visitors. A fashion collection she put together was for spring/summer season to show her idea of new trends.
She is self-employed and designs for individual clients as well as fashion houses her recently she has done outfit designing of Jofa Lawn. Ready-to-wear collections are usually presented in cheap materials, creatively used, produce affordable fashion. But Nosheen works in different way, in order to satisfy individual customer she gives priority to look and fit over the cost of materials.
She decides which fabrics to use with which designs. Her choice of colours, fabric, sewing and tailoring, pattern making is aesthetically pleasing, practical, comfortable and fashionable. She does clothing designing in women's casual and formal wear suits. Around fifty dresses were presented each dress is made from high-quality, expensive fabric, sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish.
The dresses were in different fabrics like cotton, Shaphon, Embosed Silk, Pure Crape and Printed Shaphon. A great care is taken in the choice and cut of the fabric. Clothes are made in small quantities to guarantee exclusivity, so they are rather expensive ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000.
The collection includes women's day wear which were practical, comfortable and of course fashionable. While women's evening wear were glamorous, sophisticated, and relevant for the occasion. And teenager girl wear were colorful, comfortable, glamorous and pretty.
Her first step in creating a design is researching current fashion and making predictions of future trends. What styles, colours, and fabrics will be popular for a particular season in the future? Like other freelance designers Nosheen also have to work longer hours and under pressure to please clients and to find new ones.
She has a strong sense of the aesthetic eye for colour and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation for beauty. And also need excellent communication and problem-solving skills. I have high hopes for her in future. She is an aspiring addition in fashion industry of our country.
