Iceland volcanic eruption causing ash clouds in the air space over North Europe and UK is expected to stay in the airspace until Saturday morning (today) restricting aircraft movement in the region, PIA spokesman said here on Friday.
The flight schedule of PIA has also been suspended and passengers travelling to Europe, UK, US and Canada should check their flight timings from the Call Center 111-786-786 before coming to airports.
Following flights of Friday stand cancelled: PK 761 for the sector Islamabad-Istanbul-Amsterdam and PK762 Amsterdam-Istanbul-Islamabad PK 749 & 750 for the sector Islamabad-Milan -Paris and PK 750 Milan -Paris- Islamabad. PK 787 & 788 for the sector Karachi-Islamabad - London and PK 788 London -Karachi. 709 for the sector Lahore-Manchester & PK 710 Manchester -Lahore. PK 701 & 702 for the sector Islamabad -Manchester & PK702 Manchester - Islamabad.
However, PK 781 will leave for Toronto from Benazir Bhutto International Airport at 8pm ETD via the South Atlantic route, airspace of which is not affected by the volcanic ash. This route has been planned by Captain Saleem Ahmed, General Manager Central Control PIA; to enable the passengers reach their destination without any further delay.
PIA Flight Operations is in constant communication with the Air Traffic Controllers in Europe and UK and the moment restrictions are lifted from flight movement PIA will start its flight operations. It is expected that London Heathrow airport may become operational after 5am (PST) Saturday (today) as suggested by Air Traffic Controller UK.
Another PIA flight stranded at Paris Charles De' Gaulle Airport with 320 passengers for John F. Kennedy Airport-New York will depart after the EU Air Traffic Controller permit departure expected after mid-night (PST). Meanwhile, the passengers have been made comfortable at four different hotels by PIA staff in Paris.-PR
