Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the project of Land Record Management and Information System is of vital importance, and the completion of this project will open up new avenues of socio-economic progress in the province.
He said with the computerisation of land record, ownership of properties would be made safer and more effective which will redress the grievances of the people. He directed that Kasur Pilot Project should be completed in June 2010. He was presiding over a high level meeting at the chief minister's secretariat, held to review the progress of Land Record Management and Information System Project.
The CM said that the land record computerisation project is a revolutionary step of the government and it will be completed in a transparent manner. He said that under this project, service centres would be established and people will be facilitated to get transfer deeds of their lands.
Shahbaz said this project will also facilitate the landowners to get agricultural and other loans from banks and the process of acquisition of 'fard' by the people would become easier. He hoped that the project would eliminate bribery, corruption and 'patwari culture' and that the cost of property transfer will also be reduced.
He directed early and transparent completion of the project besides evolving a strategy for training of the concerned officials. Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance, Secretary Information Technology, Commissioner Lahore Division and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
