Pukhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) of 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa' has welcomed the 18th constitutional amendment, saying that abolition of concurrent list and recognition of the rights of the provinces on their resources would guarantee provincial autonomy.
Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday, the provincial president of PMAP, Mukhtar Khan Yusufzai, paid tributes to the members of the constitutional reforms committee. He said that for establishment of a federal democratic constitutional system, PMAP had proposed abolition of the 17th amendment and establishment of a united Pakhtoon province comprising the territory from Mianwali and Attock to Chitral and Bolan.
He said that for the first time in the 63 years long history of the country amendments introduced in the constitution reflected the aspirations of the people. The package has denounced all anti-democracy and parliamentary amendments made by the military dictators and has evolved a federal, parliamentary constitutional democratic system, demarcation of the frontiers of relations between the federating units and federation, provincial autonomy and granting of national identity to the people of the province.
The parliamentary committee, he said had recognised equal right of both Pukhtoons and Balochs in the joint province of Balochistan. Furthermore, he said, the democratic political parties of the parliamentary committee have also expressed their resolve of maintaining the constitutional autonomous status of FATA for introducing of democratic reforms in the area.
