The NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani said after having faced with tremendous challenges especially over the past few years, we, in NWFP and FATA are confronted with a greater challenge of revival of economy and need support from the entire nation to achieve this goal.
Addressing as the chief guest at award distribution and concluding ceremony of the Annual Governing Body Meeting of Pakistan Engineering Council, Owais Ahmed Ghani said, the role of business community and technologists carries paramount importance. Paying rich tributes to the people for facing difficult situation, the Governor said, resilience, they have been showing has enabled us to come over the challenges successfully.
In fact, he remarked, every segment of the society including women and children have sacrificed side by side to the officers and jawans of the security forces and number of people have become handicapped. Our success in overcoming militancy, which, in fact was the total war like situation have been recognised across the world.
This, he remarked, was in fact a most biggest challenge after independence and the nation by successfully overcoming it proved that greatness reached to paint, who have expect to restore greater degree of normalcy within a year. The Governor welcomed holding of the Annual Governing Body Meeting of Pakistan Engineering Council in the provincial metropolitan and said, "This itself is a visible sign of support to the province in its rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts".
He also reminded the engineers, that there exist vast resources and opportunities, which can be exploited in the best interest of the nation and the country. In fact, he remarked, keeping in view the ground realities, one reaches to the conclusion that a geo-economic shift is going to take place in near future in this region".
He also felicitated the engineers who had achieved awards for their extra ordinary services. Engr. Rukhsana Zubari, Chairperson of Pakistan Engineering Council, and Engineer Zahid Arif Convenor of the Annual Governing Body Meeting, while welcoming the Governor and the guests said, that their organisation acts as think tank for the government. It has most recently furnished proposals to deal with the problem of water scarcity and exploitation and utilisation of mineral wealth especially to generate electricity from coal.
The organisation, they said, has for the first time introduced the awards distribution ceremony and it will be continued as a regular in feature. Meanwhile, the Governor gave away awards to the engineers for achieving distinctive positions. Engineer Muhammad Ali got the Gold medal followed by Engineer Saeed Raza Muhsin and Engr. Muhammad Bashir who were awarded silver and bronze medals. The engineers including Engr. Mir Naeemullah Khan, Engr. Karim Khan and Engr. Shah Nawaz Khan were awarded life time achievement awards for remaining more than 30 years actively engaged in the profession.
Special awards were also given to: Engr. Owais Ahmed Ghani, Engr. Wakil Ahmad Paracha, Engr. Habib, Engr. Ali, Hisamuddin Bangash, Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, Engr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Professor Iqbal Hussain Shah, Engr. Asfaque Hussain, Engr. M.A.Q Jehangir Durrani, Dr Khan Gul Jadoon, Engr. Sardar Muhammad Tariq, Engr. Raqeeb Khan, Engr. Rukhsana Zubari, Lieutenant General Shahid Niaz, Engr. Taj Ali Khan, Engr. Moaatadillah, Amjad Aziz Malik, Engr. Hidayatullah Khan, Engr. Javed Safdar, Engr. Karim Khan Nasir Ghafoor, Engr. Shahab Khattak and Engr. Tahir Aziz. The ceremony, besides a large number of engineers, educationists and representative of business community, was also attended by the Speaker NWFP Assembly Karamatullah Khan Chagharmati.
