President Indo-Pak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IPCCI), S M Munir has demanded of the government to reduce Atta (flour) prices, instead of exporting wheat. He was speaking at a dinner hosted by Mehtab-ud-din Chawla here on Monday. Munir urged that both the government and opposition should give up their differences for the sake of the national interest and work for the welfare of masses.
Referring to Value Added Tax (VAT), he said that Federal Advisor on Finance Abdul Hafiz Shaikh has signed agreement with IMF and VAT will be implemented from July 1, 2010. However, he was of the view that implementation of VAT will not be an easy task for the government.
He urged the government to discuss the issue of VAT with FPCCI and other trade bodies at length, otherwise its imposition will create unrest in business circles. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan advised FPCCI and all other trade bodies to send their budget proposals within a week so that they should be taken up with the government and efforts could be made to include them in the upcoming budget. Sardar Mohammad Yaseen Malik also emphasised the need to work for the betterment of the masses.
