A crackdown against cattle thieves is underway on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and around 314 cattle lifters have been arrested so far. Contacts between Livestock and Local Government departments and police are being enhanced and made more effective in the interest of cattle farmers.
A campaign is being launched on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for promoting awareness among cattle farmers and focal persons are being appointed at district and tehsil level for improving contacts between the people and the police to check cattle theft.
This was decided in a meeting held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Monday. Officials of Local Government and Livestock Departments, Punjab Patrolling Police and the chairmen of three Task Forces set up to check cattle theft, MPA Chaudhry Arshad Jutt (South Punjab), MPA Ali Asghar (Central Punjab) and Tahir Ahmed Shindu (North Punjab) were present in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting were informed that the campaign against cattle theft is being launched as a social movement on the directives of Shahbaz Sharif for creating awareness among the people and curbing cattle theft. Banners are being put up in cattle markets of the province for the awareness of the people so that the people could timely inform the government about cattle theft and action could be taken against cattle thieves.
