Punjab University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that Saturday has been declared as a full working day for holding special classes up to 30th June 2010 in order to cover the loss of studies caused due to the 15-day academic boycott by the PU teachers.
He was presiding over a special meeting of all the deans and principals of the constituent colleges in his office committee room here on Monday. Pro vice-chancellor Professor Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry and Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan were also present. The vice-chancellor said with a view to facilitating the students, the PU transport fleet will be available on all routes on Saturday up to 30th June 2010.
The Resident Officer-I Professor Shahid Mahmood Gul was directed to make arrangements for extra university buses on Friday evening also to facilitate the students who may take their classes after Friday prayers. All the heads of departments have been authorised to depute limited officials/support staff on Saturday in connection with the holding of special classes.
The RO-I was further directed that constant vigilance should be maintained by the security staff in collaboration with the police officials to ensure that no expelled or wanted student should reside in the varsity hostels. While PU vice-chancellor Mujahid Kamran paid a surprise visit to the PU examination cluster center consisting of 24 halls for 4800 candidates located on the Wahdat Road for the BA/BSc 2010 annual examination.
Controller Examinations Professor Dr Zahid Karim Khan, Additional Controller Malik Muhammad Zaheer and Students Advisor Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry were also present on the occasion. The vice-chancellor inspected examination centers set up for both male and female candidates.
He also inquired from the Superintend and supporting staff on duty as to whether they were facing any problem in the conduct of examination, the latter expressed their complete satisfaction over the arrangements made by the office of Controller Examinations. The vice-chancellor was also informed that a standby generator has been arranged to ensure uninterrupted power supply during load shedding.
