Ten University of Engineering and Technology (UET) students have been selected for a scholarship programme for technical education in Pakistan. The scholarship programme, titled "ZONG Scholarship Program" was started last year as part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiatives.
ZONG selected ten students for the ZONG Scholarship Program at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore through which the students would receive their tuition fees and living expenses for the entire four years of engineering school. The interviews with UET students were held on the campus and students in the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Computer Sciences and Engineering were eligible.
This is the second year of the ZONG Scholarship Program, which aims to enable talented, deserving young people to acquire quality technical education from one of the most prestigious engineering universities in the country.
The scholarship amount covers all academic and related expenses for each student. The company is promoting higher education in Pakistan as a caring corporate citizen and looks forward to working with institutions like UET to help students pursuing professional education. The company also intends to facilitate and provide counselling to engineering students who intend to study telecommunications in Pakistan as well as in other countries.
The emphasis of the ZONG Scholarship will be to financially support students who are motivated in enhancing scientific and technological research. Thus, the students are selected on a need and merit-based criteria. The process was conducted in phases so that the forty or more students who applied for the scholarship were evaluated and then interviewed by a joint steering committee formed by ZONG and UET. Salman Wassay, Head of Marketing, ZONG, said that the scholarship program created by ZONG was a fundamental part of their corporate social responsibility as helping young people access quality technological education would form the backbone of talent necessary for the advancement of industry and development in Pakistan.
