Federal Minister for Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan has underlined the need of plantation for a better environment and urged the concerned authorities to making motorways greener. He said this at the inauguration ceremony of Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PTC) Nursery at Swabi Interchange on Tuesday.
Addressing the function near Swabi Interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-I), he said that motorways are assets of the country. "This sector was not given due importance in past while the present elected government plans to improve the infrastructure through out the country," the minister said.
Arbab Alamgir Khan appreciated PTC for its efforts in promoting afforestation and for striving for a better environment with such excellent projects. He lauded PTC for planing to plant 600,000 saplings along M1 motorway. Welcoming the guests Area Communications Manager Hina Ahmad said that plantation is an activity, which needs to be promoted for a clean and safe environment. State Minister for Communications Imtiaz Warriach stressed upon the need of spirit of nationalism and said private sector companies should follow the footsteps of PTC.
Director Corporate Affairs Shaiful Mahapar said that PTC is running its afforestation programme since 1980 and has planted 52 million trees up till now. He said that the company plants four million trees each year and distributes them amongst both the private and public sector free of cost.
He said that PTC's Swabi Nursery is a partnership with National High Authority (NHA) and is a good example of public private partnership. Giving details of the Swabi Nursery, External Communications & CSR Manager Syed Khurram Shah said that M1 Swabi Project would produce two million plants each year to be distributed free of cost.
