Another deadly armed clash in Fata feared: immediate government intervention demanded
Member National Assembly from Kurram Agency feared another deadliest armed clash in the already restive Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and appealed the federal government for immediate intervention as fighting in two villages of the upper Kurram has entered fourth day.
Talking to a group of reporters here on Tuesday, MNA Sajid Hussain Turi feared that the fighting started three days back in Shilawzan and Piwar villages of the Upper Kurram could engulf the entire region if immediate measures were not taken by the government.
Turi said that he had already brought the issue to the notice of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and added that owing to the crushing defeat of the terrorists in Orakzai Agency, they are on the run and want to infiltrate into the neighbouring Kurram Agency.
He, however, said that the local people were united and have already announced their support to the government against the terrorists. But, he cautioned that the terrorists could extend the fighting to the entire region if government did not take an in time action against them.
The MNA also demanded of the government to re-open the Thall-Parachinar road which he said had been closed for the last three and half years. He appealed the Federal Government to take immediate measures to avert another deadliest clash in Kurram Agency. He mentioned that since 2007, about 25,00 people have been killed and thousands other wounded in Kurram Agency clashes. To a question, he thanked Asif Ali Zardari for inclusion the Kurram Agency residents in the IDPs and also urged that Kurram Agency being the most affected areas should be included in the Wasila-e-Haq programme.
