Cash basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the US Plains were flat on Wednesday and grain dealers reported only a smattering of country sales after Tuesday's recovery rally in Kansas City Board of Trade wheat futures. A few farmers were moving old-crop wheat to make room ahead of the new winter wheat harvest.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City fell 2 cents for ordinary to 12 percent protein wheat; premiums for other grades were unchanged. Opening calls for KCBT HRW wheat futures were mixed, from 1 cent per bushel higher to 1 cent lower.
