President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Abdul Majid Haji Mohammad has expressed concern on allowing free-access to director general intelligence and investigation (DGI&I) Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enter into industrial and business premises.
Commenting on a news item polished on Thursday May 6, 2010 in Daily Business Recorder, he showed his utter surprise, particularly on the amendment in SRO 56 (1) 2010 and SRO 283 (1) 2010. He said that we, along with the cross-sections of business community from entire Pakistan met president of Pakistan, Prime Minister and finance minister in Islamabad. He quoted the President "our government's policy is (give) incentives and not to penalise".
After this categorical statement, this kind of amendment in SRO, giving sweeping powers to director general intelligence and investigation FBR, permitting them to enter into the premises and do whatever they like, I believe, is completely in contrast with the vogue of the current democratic government, he remarked.
This kind of amendment melts down to nothing but a conspiracy against the democratically elected government. Someone sitting somewhere is trying to create breach between the business community and the democratic government, he added. President KCCI said he is sure that President of Pakistan is not aware of this development. He appealed to president on behalf of the entire business community to withdraw the said amendment.-PR
