The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is working on new industrial policy to attract investors from other provinces of the country. "The province does not have realistic industrial policy and the provincial government has prepared guidelines for the formulation of new policy.
The new policy would be framed in consultation with the experts," Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Industries, Syed Ahmad Hussein Shah said while briefing journalists regarding the progress and achievements of the industrial sector in the province.
The minister was flanked by Secretary to the provincial government on industries, Jameel Ahmad and Chairman Sarhad Development Authority (SDA) Dr Hamad Owais Agha and other senior officials of the department. In the new industrial policy, he said the provincial government would give priority to the installation of power generation plants in all industrial estates for provision of uninterrupted electricity to the industrial units.
The minister said that the industrial estates of the province were lacking fighting machinery and in case of fire eruption, they have to look towards the Town Administrations (TMAs). He said that the machinery would be provided to all four major industrial estates. In first instance, the fire fighting machinery would be provided to the Hayatabad Industrial Estate, which would be followed by Hattar and Gadoon Industrial estates. Furthermore, they would also be connected with RESCUE 1122.
For overcoming the energy crisis, he said that Sarhad Development Authority (SDA) would utilise available potential hydropower sites for the establishment of Micro-Hydel Stations. Through the establishment of such stations about 300 houses would be provided uninterrupted power supply for a period of 24 hours. The establishment of one station would cost Rs 2 million to Rs 2.5 million.
The provincial minister said that industrial sector is the most important sector, which creates employment opportunities as public sector could not guarantee provision of job to all unemployed people. The minister said that the two institutions SDA and Small Industries Development Board (SIDB) were working for the promotion of industrial development in the province.
The officials of the both institutions were making full efforts for the development of industrial sector in the province. He said that industrialists, chambers and associations are happy with the efforts and hard work of both institutions. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti is also taking keen interest in the promotion of industrial development and for this purpose he has sanctioned funds, he said. Funds have also been approved under the annual development programme.
Beside, funds sanctioned by the province itself, they are also in contact with federal government. The announcement of special package for the economic revival of the province, he said also reflects the interest of the federal government. The provincial government was in touch with the federal government over the Prime Minister's Relief Package to issue a reviewed package for the province soon, he said.
