Commander Turkish Land Forces, General Sebahattin Isik Kosaner on Wednesday assured the military leadership of Pakistan full support of his country in development and stability of Pakistan. Turkey will provide full support to Pakistan in dealing with its multiple challenges, especially the menace of terrorism and violent extremism, the Turkish Commander said while talking to top military leadership of Pakistan in separate meetings here.
He called on General Tariq Majid, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC), at Joint Staff Headquarters and General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at General Headquarters of Pakistan Army.
He exchanged views on the regional security situation besides matters related to enhancement of bilateral defence co-operation and other aspects of mutual interest also came under discussion. General Tariq Majid expressed satisfaction over multidimensional defence co-operation between Pakistan and Turkey and thanked the government and people of Turkey for standing by Pakistan in difficult times.
He appreciated the role played by Turkey for its support in Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) forum, instituting the mechanism of regular Tripartite Summit among Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey, hosting of Regional Summit on Afghanistan, support rendered to manage the IDPs and assistance for capacity building of Armed Forces in struggle against terrorism and violent extremism.
Lauding Turkey's contributions in Afghanistan, General Tariq Majid emphasised that while the military effort may be needed to shape the environment for non-military prongs to progress, it is the political outreach, backed by reinvigorated efforts for socio-economic mainstreaming of the people, and capacity building of Afghan government and its security forces, which will actually make the difference, therefore, it should be the real focus of coalition strategy.
Turkish Commander visited the General Headquarters of Pakistan Army and called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The visiting dignitary discussed the matters of mutual interest with Kayani. On arrival at General Headquarters, Turkish Commander laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the Guard of Honour to General Kosaner.
