Workers of solid waste department demand salaries

Workers of solid waste management department on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of Multan Press Club and blocked the road by staging a sit-in on Abdali Road on the call of Municipal Employees Welfare Union. Earlier, they organised a big rally and blocked the Nawan Shehr Chowk by parking their bicycles to press the authorities for payment of their salaries and acceptance of their demands.
The rally was led by Muhammad Riaz Khan, President and Chaudhry Javed Iqbal General Secretary and Hidayatullah. Speaking on the occasion, they said the solid waste management department has not yet paid salaries to the temporary, contract and ad hoc employees due to a rift between District officer (Solid Waste Management) Hakim IJaz Jhakkar and EDO (MS) Faheem Ahmed Khan Lodhi. They further said that arrears of the deceased families have also not been cleared so far. The workers warned to take direct action if their payment was not made within a week.
