Chairman Senate standing committee for textile industry, Senator Gul Mohammed has said that value-added sector serves as the backbone of national economy and it can not be ignored at any cost. Talking to a delegation here Thursday, the PPP Senator said that under prevailing conditions, our country couldn't afford strikes, lawlessness and unemployment or any act, which may weaken the economy.
"We will have to fully focus on value added sector, comprehend its problems and solve them as this sector provides over 40 percent employment". He pointed out that as compared to country's overall trade, value-added sector forms 50 percent of Pakistan's export and livelihood of lacs of workers is linked to this sector.
"We neither wants to let our exports decline and thus weaken our economy by ignoring this sector, nor render workers attached with this sector jobless". Senator Gul Mohammed said the government not only supports the value-added sector, but also the exporters who are playing an appreciative role by providing a boost to foreign reserves.
