Lahore Transport Company (LTC) will purchase around 300 new buses to provide comfortable transport facility to the commuters of Lahore. Some foreign and local investors have also shown interest in the project, Chairman LTC Tasnim Noorani said at a meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif. The meeting reviewed measures for providing transport facilities to the masses.
Member Provincial Assembly Mohsin Latif, Chairman Task force, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance and DIG Traffic were present. The chief minister directed the LTC authorities to expedite the process of acquiring new buses as the government wanted to see maximum buses plying on the city roads within shortest possible time. "An independent company has been set up for providing transport facilities to the citizens which is being provided maximum resources while 20 percent subsidy is being given to encourage transporters", he added.
He said that official procedure should be simplified for the early implementation of public welfare projects and instead of wasting time on summaries, the projects should be initiated as quickly as possible. Shahbaz said that modern bus shelters should be constructed where cold drinking water should also be available for the passengers.
The haphazard billboards had marred the beauty of the city that were now being removed, he said and directed PHA to conduct a survey for selecting suitable sites for the display of billboards and LTC should also contact PHA for displaying its billboards. He said use of public transport could be promoted like the developed countries by providing modern transport facilities to the masses, as it will also help control traffic.
