Wheat procurement: 'government safeguarding rights of small, genuine farmers'
Secretary Food Punjab Irfan Elahi has said that Punjab government is safeguarding rights of small and genuine farmers by providing them maximum facilities during the wheat procurement campaign. He said CM Punjab is himself supervising the wheat purchase process and has instructed him to conduct field visits to resolve the problems faced by the farmers.
He expressed these views while interacting with farmers during his surprise visits to wheat purchasing centres of Faisalabad. The secretary said sufficient bardana had been supplied to purchase centres for purchasing wheat from small and genuine growers and there was no shortage of gunny bags at any purchase centre. Moreover, he said he has directed the deployed staff to extend maximum co-operation to the farmers so that they do not face any kind of disturbance. He said arrangements had also been made to save the farmers from any kind of inconvenience.
Earlier, Irfan Elahi visited Tandilianwala, Kanjwani and some other purchase centres to inspect the ongoing wheat procurement process. DCO Saeed Wahlah was also accompanying him who briefed him over the arrangements the district administration had made for this season's wheat purchase process.
The DCO apprised the secretary over the mechanism and strategy adopted by him to monitor the wheat procurement campaign to make it more beneficial for the growers. He told him that strict monitoring was being carried out on regular basis to make the campaign more effective and error free. Furthermore, he said stringent action was also being taken against officials found involved in violation of the process.
