Advisor to Prime Minister on Information Technology Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has said that Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan will appear before the court to present the governments point of view on NRO. He said that the government will not write any letter to open the Swiss cases because there were no criminal cases on both Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and President Asif Ali Zardari.
He said that it was only the investigation process, which was going on and the Swiss courts have closed the cases according to the Swiss law. He was talking to the media after the 1st convocation of Virtual University on Tuesday. He stressed his hope that after listening to the point of view of the government on NRO from law minister would file these cases.
On the question that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has uphold the decision of Lahore High Court of giving sentence to Interior Minister Rehman Malik in a NAB corruption case Khosa said that President used his discretionary powers under Article 45. He said it was the same article which was used by former president Rafiq Tarar to give pardon to Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in hi-jacking case in which he was given life imprisonment during former presidents Musharraf's era.
Earlier, while addressing the convocation he said that government will provide free of cost transponder to the Virtual University so that they will run their educational transmission without any hurdle. He also announced that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari will distribute excellence awards to the students of VU in the ceremony which will be held in President house this year. He praised the role of Higher Education Commission and Ministry of Information Technology for providing support to the VU.
He said PPP government is committed to provide education and especially education regarding information technology to the whole country. He said government will fully support the VU for establishing campuses in the whole country.
The convocation was held simultaneously in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Jamshoro, Karachi and Quetta, which was telecast with the innovative use of information and communication technologies. In the convocation degree was awarded to 2,800 students. The convocation was attended by federal secretary information technology Najeebullah Malik and Rector Virtual University Dr Naveed A Malik.
