Rs 142.162 million spent for sending officials abroad during three years: PIA informs Senate
Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has informed Senate that Rs 142.162 million has been spent on the officials of the airline by sending them abroad for different purposes during the last three years. In a written reply to the Senate, Defence Ministry stated that Rs 36.262 million has been spent on 373 airline officials during 2007, Rs 31.555 million on 387 officials during 2008 and Rs 74.352 million during 2009 while sending them abroad.
To a question, the Ministry stated that presently there are four private airlines operating in Pakistan and one airline namely Air Indus has applied for licence, which is under consideration. The Defence Ministry further informed the House that the Cantonment Board Rawalpindi is charging tax @15 percent of the property and there has been no increase in the tax rate sine 1999, adding it has accumulated Rs 1037.00 million as houses tax from Cantonment Board Rawalpindi during the last 10 years.
Ministry of Postal Service has informed the House that as many as 73 new post offices were established during the last two years throughout the country. Out of them, 32 in Punjab, 13 each in Sindh and Balochistan seven in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa seven in Federal Capital and AJK and one in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Senate was also informed that 236 private educational institutions have been established on residential plots in Islamabad. Ministry of Communication informed the House that the total cost of the Mansehra-Naran-Jhalkhand Road is Rs 4,487 million and an amount of Rs 5 million is allocated in PSDP 2009-10 and Rs 158.09 million has been utilised so far.
The estimated cost for the construction of Jhalkhan-Chilas Road is 2,519 million and an amount of Rs 30 million is allocated in PSDP 2009-10 and Rs 421.28 million has been utilised from July to April 2010. On the Lowari top, the Ministry informed the House that Rs 1,500 million has been allocated in PSDP 2009-10 and Rs 642.6 million utilised from July 2009 April 2010 and the total estimated cost of the project is Rs 7,981million. Ministry of Women Development stated that the Ministry has spent Rs 105.539 million on the Women Development projects, which benefited as many as 28,157 women across the country.
