The level of sports in Pakistan is decreasing due to lacking necessary facilities, the ex-DG Rangers (Punjab) Major General Saleem Ullah (Retd) said. While addressing the opening ceremony of 10-day DG Rangers Gold Cup National Women Basketball Championship here at Punjab Rangers Headquarters on Wednesday, he said.
"We cannot improve the present situation without sponsorship of government as well as its institutions." Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) on its part is playing an important role in improving the standard of games and encouragement of players, he added. As many as 18 basketball teams including PAF, Habib Bank, POF, Railways, HEC, KESC, Punjab Reds, Punjab Blues, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rangers, Wapda, Police, Sindh, Balochistan, Fata, Islamabad and Army are participating in the event. Wapda will defend the title in the DG Rangers Gold Cup National Women Basketball Championship that will continue till May 28. On the opening day, Rangers faced Punjab, Wapda contested against HEC while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced HBL.
