Executive Committee of the Qaumi Tajir Ittehad (QTI) has said that the traders' community will not accept Value Added Tax (VAT) or increase in the property tax in any case. The Executive Committee met with QTI President Khwaja Azhar Gulshan in the chair. The Committee said that the government should not take these steps without consultation with the traders and taking them in to confidence.
This was announced by Khwaja Azhar Gulshan, Mian Akbar Rashid, Babar Butt and others while addressing a press conference after the meeting of the executive committee here on Saturday. They announced that if the government tried to enforce VAT without consulting or taking traders' community into confidence, then it would observe a shutter down strike and also stop payment of routine taxes.
They also said that they would continue supporting the decision of the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif regarding closing the markets by 8pm in the larger national interest. However, they said that the government should also cooperate with traders and ensure continuous power supply during the day. The meeting also reviewed the budget 2010-11 and urged the government not to enhance burden of taxes on the traders' community rather it should be provided relief.
