Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has busted a gang of hackers and arrested five persons involved in defacing thousands of domestic and international websites. Besides hacking the websites both national and international, the gang was also involved in online fraud like use of stolen credit cards and numbers of credit cards, sources in FIA said here on Thursday.
They said that after having information about the gang known as 'PakBugs', the agency launched an operation in which five members of the gang were arrested. Computers and other equipment used in various cyber crimes have also been seized in the operation. The founder of the gang known as Jawad Ehsan is based in Saudi Arabia, sources said.
They said that the gang was involved in hacking thousands of websites belonging to different government institutions, NGOs, international organisations and individuals. The gang was also busy in credit card hacking and usage of stolen credit cards, they said.
According to sources the co-founder of the gang Hassan Khan is among five people detained so far. Khan belongs to Peshawar while other members of the gang hail from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Bannu. PakBugs has criminal record in cyber-crimes and many cases have been registered against them.
