The Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) on Thursday strongly condemned the incident of burning a woman alive early this week in Sargodha, terming it a cold-blooded murder. The WPC Working Council met in the Parliament House and discussed women's issues. The council felt that inhumane behaviour towards women and denial of opportunities to them was the biggest hurdle in the progress of the womenfolk.
The women parliamentarian stressed the need for necessary measures to protect and ensure equal opportunities to women so that they could work for the progress and prosperity of the country. They also demanded strict implementation of laws so that no one could dare to commit heinous crime against women. The WPC viewed the incident of burning a woman alive as a reflection of ignorant and shameful mindset prevalent in the society for ages. Demanding an exemplary punishment for the culprit and his accomplices, the WPC called upon all the authorities concerned to show zero tolerance towards such inhuman practices. It also reminded that neither any religion nor the constitution of Pakistan allowed such behaviour.
The WPC also met with the representatives of German organisation Heinrich Boll Stiftung and discussed the future co-operation between the Women Parliamentary Caucus and the Heinrich Boll Stiftung regarding women empowerment projects. The German organisation agreed to extend maximum possible support to Women Parliamentary Caucus in pursuance of its programmes.
