Vice President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Founder Chairman Pak-US Business Council, Iftikhar Ali Malik has urged the US to support Pakistan to achieve economic prosperity and self reliance. He was addressing a farewell gathering organised for Brian D. Hunt, Political Counsellor of US the Embassy, here on Friday.
Hunt has been promoted as Deputy Chief of Mission to Tanzania and will leave Pakistan in this week. Malik said Pakistan has lost a lot of time and money for being a friend of US in the war against terrorism. Now Pakistan needed trade rather than aid, he added. He urged the outgoing political counsellor to convey this message to the US policy makers.
While appreciating Hunt's services, Malik said that Hunt also served as Principal Officer of the US Consulate Lahore for almost two years and during his tenure he devotedly served the cause of Pakistan and US. He further said that US must play its due role to normalise relations between India and Pakistan, as both the countries are nuclear powers, thus their issues must be settled smoothly for peace and prosperity in the region. Hunt thanked business community and Lahoris for their confidence and love. FPCCI Vice President, Hameed Akhter Chadda also spoke on the occasion.
