Hike in the prices of yellow metal compels people to buy ornaments made up of other metals as the boom in the demand of imitation jewellery has constituted a general rise in the demand and prices of metals used to carve imitation jewellery.
In the past couple of years, imitation jewellery has become the centre of attention for people. The jewellery manufacturers offer creative, unique pieces to cater to any taste and preference of the customers.
Classic new look derived from different materials like wood, shellac, bone, metal, Electroplated Nickel silver (EPNS), terracotta, resin, plastic, beads, stones have not only succeeded to form a good market by attracting the attention of people, but also increased the demand of such metals.
Talking to APP, a jewellery dealer said, "Imitation jewellery is made of metals other than gold. Some of the metals mainly used in making imitation ornaments are steel, brass and copper. These have gradually become substitute of gold ornaments which have raised the demand and price of such metals".
Most women buying imitation jewellery are of the view that imitation jewellery looks as beautiful as the original, being affordable at the same time.
"Reasonable price range makes it convenient for every woman to buy imitation jewellery which results in rise in the demand of these ornaments," a shopkeeper at Super Market Islamabad told APP.
Jewellers urged metal providers co-operate with them in developing quality ornaments. They demanded government to pay attention to the industry of imitation jewellery and to provide a wider platform to the designers to exhibit their works both locally and internationally.
