The Pathology Department of Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Lahore has received ISO-9000:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certification by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC).
The department was given this recognition as it satisfactorily complied with the requirements of the accrediting bodies; established control system, well-equipped labs, efficient system of report handling and processing, environmental protection and waste management control as being paramount considerations.
Expressing his views, Medical Superintendent Services Hospital Dr Muhammad Javaid said the department offers round the clock services to in-patients and outdoor-patients and particular emphasis is on quality control and efficient running of the various labs.
These are computerised and give on-line services to ward patients for their convenience, as well as that of the doctors. The labs are provided with the latest equipment and instruments which are mostly automated, he added. He further said that the labs applied for ISO 9001:2008 and 14001:2004 certification and they successfully complied with all the requirements to be given international standard accreditation by UKAS and PNAC.
